Today Rob Moshein posted on Bob Atchison's Alexander Palace Time Machine:

"...Bob has been well aquainted with Andrew Romanov for over 20 years, in fact, Andrew went to Russia with Bob on one trip..."

Justin Edwards posted on Oma Hamou.com:

In the course of Oma Hamou/Enigma/Sarskaia’s lawsuit with Bob Atchison, Pallasart and the Alexander Palace Association Bob claimed Oma had hired Andrew Romanov and didn’t pay him. Andrew Romanov is a direct descendant of Czar Nicholas II who Bob described in court as being a prominent member of his Internet Club, the Alexander Palace Association. Bob Atchison could not and did not produce one shred of evidence that would support this claim of Oma hiring Mr. Romanov nor could he describe the work the man did for her and the court admonished him and his testimony was deemed hearsay and inadmissible. This information can be found in the Jury Trial transcripts uploaded on OmaHamou.com -- for the record Mr. Romanov did not perform any services for Oma Hamou or for any of her companies but like Father Markell the priest in Russia, Peter Kurth, Oma, Mike Newson and so many others it appears Mr. Romanov is yet another unfortunate victim of Mr. Atchison’s lies.

A recent article about Andrew Romanov:

Liberatore at Large: Shrinky Dink autobiography tells storybook life of Russian prince in Inverness

Paul Liberatore

Andrew Romanoff, a member of the Russian royal family, and his wife of 32 years, Inez Storer, sit on the steps of their Inverness home. (Special to the IJ/Meghan Roberts)If certain historic events had turned out differently - the Bolshevik Revolution, for instance - Andrew Romanoff, a distinguished if unconventional Inverness artist, could have been the emperor of Russia.

Admittedly, that sounds more than a little implausible, but stranger things have happened. And it isn't that hard to picture this dignified, remarkably youthful, mustachioed octogenarian - regal even in blue jeans and a fleece vest, an ever-present scarf worn dashingly around his neck - as a royal personage, even a Russian czar.

Given a choice, there are probably some people who would prefer him over Vladimir Putin, but that's neither here nor there.

Romanoff, who celebrated his 84th birthday Sunday, is the grandnephew of Russia's last czar, the ill-fated Nicholas II, who was executed in 1918 by the Bolsheviks along with his wife, Alexandra, and their children.

The rest of the Romanoff family was rescued from Russia by King George V of England, who invited them to live in a 23-room "cottage" on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Although he's of royal Russian blood, Andrew was born in 1923 in London and spent an idyllic, if oddly insular, childhood behind the castle gates.

"It was a strange atmosphere," he recalls over lunch in the sunny kitchen of the 1906 Victorian in Inverness where he lives with his wife, the artist Inez Storer. "I didn't know who the hell I was."

In a new autobiography, "The Boy Who Would Be Tsar: The Art of Prince Andrew Romanoff," he paints a pretty picture of his boyhood.

"The Windsor grounds made for a fantastic playground, with vast lawns, curving paths along the River Thames, fish ponds, polo fields, greenhouses full of exotic plants," he writes.
The book is an enchanting

A member of the Russian royal family, Andrew Romanoff works in the studio of his Inverness home, where he created the book of his childhood, 'The Boy who Would be Tsar.' (Special to the IJ/Meghan Roberts)volume illustrated with Romanoff's whimsical folk art, miniature drawings done in a medium originally intended as a children's toy, a material called "Shrinky Dinks." He paints on plastic sheets that shrink when baked in an oven.

Earlier this month, he was feted at a reception at Gallery 16 in San Francisco, where his book, his drawings and paintings will be on exhibit through Feb. 24. Published by Urban Digital Color, the book is available through www.gallery16.com

"We had people calling us all week before the opening, saying, 'Oh, what a great story. Is it actually true?'" says Vanessa Blaikie, assistant gallery director. "I told them, 'Absolutely, the whole thing.' It's just so fantastical to imagine that this is somebody's life."

One of those people whom everyone in West Marin, it seems, has something nice to say about, Romanoff and his wife have lived for four decades in their wood-shingled, three-story, century-old home at the end of a verdant lane.

As his book makes clear, he settled there at the end of a rather remarkable journey.

Educated at the military Imperial Service College, he served in the British Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked briefly on a farm in Kent, "the garden of England," before sailing to the United States in 1949 aboard a freighter with some other thoroughbreds - horses bound for the Kentucky Derby.

In 1970, the height of Marin's hippie migration, he came to Inverness to work as a carpenter, building houses with a Russian cousin.

But more people know him for a more countercultural venture: as the owner of a West Marin company that manufactured jewelry and "smoking paraphernalia."

"People get absorbed in the preposterous nature of his story, the arc of his life," says Gallery 16 owner Griff Williams, an old friend who encouraged him to write the book. "And it is an amazing tale. You don't go from being royalty to selling hash pipes in Bolinas and have people believe it."

But, in all the amazement over Romanoff's background, it's easy to overlook the captivating quality of his "outsider art," a term used to describe so-called naive artists who work on the margins of the mainstream art world, often using unusual materials and techniques. To the best of anyone's knowledge, there is no one else, save perhaps a generation of school kids, creating art with Shrinky Dinks.

"His work is an object lesson for young artists," Williams says. "He's so true to himself. He's so willing to let people in on even the most embarrassing moments of his life.

"We have one piece in our show, for example, that's called, 'A Romantic Way to Spend an Evening.' It's an image of a guy, whom you presume to be Andrew, digging through the trash for Viagra. And then there's this little annotation on the bottom of the drawing that says, 'Later that evening, he found one in the bottom of his drawer.'"

An American citizen since 1956, Romanoff dropped his royal title, His Serene Highness Andrew Romanoff, when he came to the United States. Good thing. It isn't the kind of moniker that would go over very well at the Old Western Saloon on a Saturday night.

But ask anyone in town who knows him, and they'll tell you that he's a prince of a man. Quiet, modest to the point of seeming shy, he speaks in an indistinguishable accent that comes from growing up in London, speaking only Russian at home and then moving to one of the more hip outposts in America.

He is a distant relative of Prince Charles, but he was in Hawaii when Charles visited West Marin last year, so the two didn't meet. Romanoff doesn't act as if he missed anything.
"We have royalty in our neighborhood, but he doesn't act in any way like royalty," says Steve Costa, owner of Point Reyes Books, where Romanoff will appear for a reading at 5 p.m. Feb. 11. "Andrew is such a down-to-earth fellow. He has this presence about him that's pretty wonderful."

While he has led a storybook life, it is not without its tragedies. In 1940, when he was 16 and away at school, his mother, a stylish 53-year-old beauty with green eyes, alabaster skin and red hair, was killed when a Nazi bomb exploded near her family's home. She was crushed when a ceiling beam fell on her.

In his book, Romanoff includes a drawing titled, "My Mother's Death," showing him praying over her coffin.

Perhaps even more emotionally devastating, his first wife, Kathleen, unexpectedly died in 1967 from a virulent flu virus. She was just 33, leaving him a widower with two small sons.
"You've never really gotten over that, have you, Andrew?" his wife asks him compassionately.
"No," he agrees, casting his eyes down, "I never have."

When he and his boys moved into Storer's big Inverness house, he also brought with him a 22-year-old baby-sitter, a dog and a rat. She already had four young children by a previous marriage to former county supervisor Tom Storer.

Sitting over lunch at their dining room table, they look back fondly, if realistically, on those early days of their extended family, a kind of "Cheaper by the Dozen" scenario that wasn't always as comedic and romantic as the movie.

"We were the Brady Bunch," Romanoff says of their instant brood of six kids, ages 6, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15. "Luckily, Inez had this beautiful house with 14 rooms."

"I think that's how we survived," she chimes in. "It was an experience in living. We did it, but it was pretty hard. If you thought about it, you wouldn't do it. But somehow we survived."
After three decades together, they remain a handsome couple, admired in the community as an example of a successful marriage and artistic partnership.

She was already an established artist when she encouraged him to express himself through his drawings, despite his lack of training.

"I owe it all to her," he says.

And, over the years, his fanciful pieces have become more than just a hobby, a curiosity, a novelty.

"People love his work," says Bolinas artist Vickisa Feinberg, publicist for Gallery Route One in Point Reyes Station, where Romanoff's drawings will be on display in the gallery annex from Feb. 9 through March 18.

"His work is very much in demand," she says. "I think it's because his art is extremely entertaining, reflecting his youthful take on life.

"We could all learn a lot from Andrew Romanoff. 'Emulate Andrew' - that's my new motto."

The Former Iraqi Information Minister, Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf

Update: Today on AA Legends Mike Newson posted:

Just some thoughts to ponder on, it seems that each side in this war, as in all wars, believe that they are right and they are winning, although in this case it may be more like the Iraqi Information Minister, Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf on one side still proclaiming that Oma Hamou is a horrible person - hate her. Even after a court said that there was sufficient evidence to show that continued attacks would harm her irreparably. (Or is it the Wizard of Oz telling Dorothy, “Ignore that man behind the curtain”?)

What I have seen is that many people from all walks of life, including those who know intimately both sides in this war, believe that Oma Hamou has shown sufficient evidence to substantiate her claims that what Bob Atchison et. al, have done to foster hate towards Oma is criminally wrong. And that they believe that Bob intentionally lied in court and submitted forged documents. Not to mention their disgust of his (and Rob Moshein’s) antics toward Oma with the sole intent of causing as much harm to Oma as possible, (not to mention that I have been focused in the crosshairs of attack also.)

It seems pretty transparent (from what I am told/read/understand) to those who have read and looked at the evidence on both sides that the current Hate Oma and the libel site about myself is controlled by someone from Pallasart’s group, cliché, or cult (depending on your point of view.) No one else has the motivation to attack like they have done, for the reasons that seem obvious, that is “we” show something about what “They” (Bob/Rob/Pallasart) have done to Oma, or how they have attacked her for something that they themselves have done, and then this Blog author come back with more attacks towards Oma or myself as a person, not what we said, but personal attacks --- let alone the time taken to “research” her past, or in the material that they provide that came from Rob directly.

The net result is that the more they have attacked us personally, the more they have driven people to believe that what Oma Hamou said was the truth, and the more that group of people believe that the current comments on that Blog towards both of Oma and myself constitute Libel and fall in the category of Hate Crimes. (And again I request that all libelous statements about myself be removed from that Blog). A criminal investigation concerning Pallasart and Bob Atchison is happening if Bob is arrested in the coming months and charged with a crime or several, I will keep you posted.

I’ve been asked why the cartoon? Well the little girl thought she could just “say it” (sign a paper abolishing a natural law) and thereby abolish the effects of natural laws on her person. Is this not like Rob Moshein/Bob Atchison saying that because he says so that what the courts told them previously could just be ignored?

If the authors at that Blog of Watchtower’s are not related to Pallasart (as they claim on Wathctower’s Blog and as Rob/Bob claimed about those other sites that incited people to hate Oma Hamou, until they went to court and admitted to the courts that it was their words), then why are the Blog owners, who say they are not connected to Pallasart at all, concerned about what we say in regards to Pallasart’s actions?

Notice that I have not said that the people behind or in, or associated with Pallasart (take your pick) are horrible people. In fact the reports are that they are intelligent and decent people, except for some kind of mania in regards to Oma (and others at times --- specifically towards those who have not agreed with them or gone along with their desires) which has been their primary target for years, well at least until I stood up and they started to target me in the same way that they targeted Oma, (Always look at the patterns, the patterns contain the truth.) So of course if they are not involved with Pallasart then I don’t expect to see a “retaliation” for my last thoughts which that cartoon prompted, but then again if they are --- then I would expect some kind of retaliation, what do you think is going to happen?

Can they resist it or is the temptation to destroy Oma Hamou (and me) so great that they won’t be able to resist? Will the anger overpower their ability to maintain rational and logical thought or will we see new posts that confirm who the authors are?

In any case the world is not what we want it to be, just because we want life to be the way we want it to be we can not ignore laws and not expect to have some sort of reaction to that action. The world now says that hate of other groups is wrong, and that they won’t accept such behavior, that libel is wrong yet the authors of Watchtower’s Blog seem to feel that they can ignore such laws with impunity. That is why the cartoon.

One last thought Jim asked me to post for him as his response to them (Pallasart, Bob Atchison and his WatchTower):

"...In an attempt to impress you of your insignificance I would like to make an attempt to impress on YOU just how much I don’t give a damn what you say about me. Considering the grotesque distortions that you portray as the truth the fact that you call me an “Old Perv” almost makes me believe that I’m not one..."

According to Oma Hamou Reality....
UPDATE

"....The Better Business Bureau rates Enigma Films a "D"

Yet the actual words on the California Better Business Bureau web site reads:

"....Given their paranoia and false premise on just this one issue, I suggest you take the rest of their statements with the same required truckload of salt..."

The statements published on the web by Pallasart and its associates about Oma Hamou, Enigma Films, Sarskaia, Mike Newson and any other person associated with them are a text book example of recklessness and purposeful avoidance of the truth. Should this matter proceed to litigation (AND IT WILL), Pallasart and Bob Atchison's conduct in this regard will supply evidence of purposeful avoidance of the truth and hence consitutional malice. An allegedly libelous or slanderous question, even if unaccompanied by any other allegedly defamatory statement statement, may constitute the basis for a valid claim of defamation, since there are numerous ways in which false factual statements can be included or implied in a question.

Quote Mike Newson:

"..Remember when Rob came on Legends and said that he had spoken with the court reporter?.."

Quote Rob Moshein: Fri Aug 04, 2006 6:12 pm

"...Sigh, poor delusional Oma/Michelle (and where IS miss justine?) ….AND, why isit that the VERY nice lady court reporter told me that no one, I repeat NO ONE has asked for Court transcripts of the trial you lost or related hearings?? Hmmmm??? Glad to provide the name and phone to anyone who emails me from a real address. given the typical hysteria Oma goes thru, no need to subjet the poor woman, but then IF the real court reporter HAD been contacted, well you would know her anyway, right OMA? ta ta psycho sockpuppets..."

Not only do we have the court reporter’s word that what Rob reported on this forum about having spoken to her was a lie we also have her affidavit.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

You make up your own minds, what are they (Bob Atchison/Rob Moshein/Pallasart) trying to hide, and can what they say be trusted when it comes to Oma Hamou, Sarskaia or Enigma or even myself and others. I have said that Bob (Pallasart) committed perjury, that his businesses affairs is not on the up and up but I’ve back it up with documentation. (Think about this, is it logical that every time Bob/Rob/Pallasart gets caught that the offending documentation that backs up the statement was faked?

Better still why is it that when ever anything happens to Bob, it is never his fault but someone else’s?

Once sure, it is possible, but how many times does the same situation have to occur before one wonders if this is not a pattern of behavior?)

Quoting Rob Moshein: “Just to make sure that should anyone attempt some sort of libel litigation out of harassment I can prove nobody actually reads this.”

Is this an admission from Rob Moshein that one, he knew what he was publishing was harassment because this was his and Pallasart’s main objective of having thrown the first salvo here on Legends about Oma Hamou? Sure sounds like it to me.

In a Letter to Bob Atchison Hamou's Attorney writes:

QUOTE ATTORNEY DAVE SLATER: "...I again point out that I would much prefer dealing with an ethical adversary bound by the Rules and Cannons of Ethics than with someone who simply makes it up as he goes along..."

Emphasis is placed on the the attorney's words, "makes it up as he goes along..."

In yet another letter dated December 4, 2003 the attorney writes to Bob Atchison:

QUOTE ATTORNEY DAVE SLATER:

“Your idea of discovery is not to marshal evidence to prepare for trial or to streamline the issues in controversy. You appear to view it as a way to inflict maximum harm and discomfort upon your adversary. I have no doubt you will have some explanation for the cat and mouse games you played with service of the pleadings and discovery I referenced above and your mysteriously inability to receive faxes when you knew I was attempting to send you documentation that were not welcomed by you. It is amazing to me that you frustrate my attempts to serve documents upon you and contemporaneously, complain about my handling of the discovery process. You may consider this tactic clever but it will not change the outcome of the case. With respect to your childish references to my “bullying” and “threatening” conduct, Mr. Atchison, I again point out that I would much prefer dealing with an ethical adversary bound by the Rules and Cannons of Ethics than with someone who simply makes it up as he goes along. I am not bullying or threatening you by strict adherence to the Rules or by insisting that we put in writing any deviation from them. Just because you use these terms often does not mean that they will somehow give you a leg up at trial. If you recall, the reason we do not communicate by telephone is that during our first and only telephone conversation I had to hang up on you because you could not control your temper...

In a letter to Justin Edwards dated August 6, 2006 someone else describes Atchison's temper...

“…I have to tell you that I've had a pretty interesting week. I've spoken to Bob Atchison several times -- which is unusual…Anyway, long and short of it is he's pretty damned freaked out by what's going on here (Legends), and he watches obsessively. He's asked me to intercede with you guys…I did have a very bad time with them and the treatment I received on their board. They weren't interested in helping out a "friend" then, and guess what? I'm not interested in helping them out now. I told them that you guys had never, ever been anything other than perfectly friendly, helpful and pleasant people. This is my experience with you, and I see no reason to accept anyone else's as more valid. In fact, after my first conversation with Bob (last Sunday), I have to say that I really saw the nature of the beast. I refused to give in to his various demands -- not only concerning you guys, but also concerning Helen…, who has apparently threatened to sue him if he kicks her off his board -- and he went from zero to crazy in nothing flat. I've never seen anything like it. Before he slammed the phone down, he promised to "fuck with me" if I ever fuck with him -- and that he'll write what he "really thinks" …publish it in the NYTimes. The last thing I heard from him telephonically was Friday or Saturday when he called to apologize and tell me that Helen… told him some long story about Oma paying for someone's abortion (Amanda something?), which had something to do with Oma paying for Helen's ticket to St. P'burg. I didn't really get it, but sometimes it's hard to understand where Bob's going – he gives partial information, and then "can't remember" the rest. And I'm not at all sure what this had to do with me -- unless I'm supposed to think that Oma is a dreadful person because she helped out some poor girl in a bad situation. He obviously has no idea how much of a liberal I am ...I can understand your being loathe to part with any of Oma's information…my-brother-the-lawyer ran a low-income divorce clinic in downtown LA, we'd occasionally get threatening calls from people who were heading down to fuck us up or kill us or something. And then there's be a pause on the line.... and they'd ask us where we were. And we'd say, "We're just not going to help you fuck us up, asshole. Off you go to find out yourself. I told Bob the same thing about Rob going over to Anastasia D...'s place -- why on earth would anyone answering the door to a strange man confirm the residency of anyone, let alone a single woman? That's Robert Bardo territory. If any strange and unexpected visitor knocks on my from door, my husband will deny knowing me. And persistence will result in a call to the police and a possible beating with the aluminum baseball bat we keep behind the door. You cannot be too careful these days -- though you do have to be sensible. Anyway -- keep on keeping on..."

In a letter dated November 9, 2003 Bob sent Attorney Dave Slater this letter:

On November 10, 2003 the Attorney Dave Slater replied:

If Hamou's attorney and the courts weren't going to listen to Bob Atchison and Rob Moshein's *bullshit* then damnit they'd make certain the world at large knew who Oma Hamou was according to them - hence the creation of all those different web sites & Blogs & multiple letters which were sent to Hamou's business associates, govenment officials and law enforcement!

There was a reason that the courts in Texas hand wrote this phrase on the Restraining Order against Rob Moshein and Pallasart's Oma Hamou Report web site, and their saying the things that are still being said against Oma even today:

"The court finds and concludes that third party plaintiffs have shown a likelihood of success on the merits of this cause, that a temporary injunction is necessary to prevent harm to Ms. Hamou. That unless injunction lies, third party plaintiffs (ed.: Oma, et. al.) will be without any adequate remedy at law, in that no amount of damages will be able to repair the loss of reputation to the parties.”

Judges just don’t hand write such stuff, not unless they have a very good reason to.Notice how point after point has fallen as being untrue about Oma as you go back in time and look at the variations in "their" story over time?

Consistency of patterns over time should be sufficient for those without an agenda of hate to realize that the over all story about Oma is false, fluffed up, contrived, propagandized, and in general created specifically to support an agenda of Hate towards Oma Hamou and those who choose to stand beside her.

And we thought it was over...
Today on AA Legends Mike Newson Published:

Now I know what a cold sweat feels like, that shiver down the spine, shortness of breath, that sudden chill of terror and fear. I had a weird experience --- Have you ever had one of those times when you met up with a friend, said "hello" and then parted after shopping or whatever and then met up again with the same friends at say the movies right after and then you meet them after the movie at the ice cream parlor? (Having never discussed what your plans were?) Some times events like this happen, but when you see someone out of the corner of your eye, and your recognition kicks in as I know them but yet I don’t?

And then they vanish, only to reappear again out of the corner of your eye again and then in another place, and then another, well your mind can play tricks on you. And then when you meet up again in still another place and you know what has happened to Oma Hamou and the threats made against yourself!!!

Only this time your mind says that’s Rob Moshein as they walk towards you… Well every freak out circuit in my body triggered. Now I have an idea of how Oma has felt. One author described it as a little mouse with cold wet feet running up and down their spine… It turned out to be no one who knew me, just a guy about the same build as Rob and with his beard as seen in some photos, just close enough that I sort of recognized them but couldn’t. But what if this was true, what if they did stalk me in person or hire someone to? Do you have any idea of how that concept feels?

I have said enough in the past that I don’t need to continue to repeat what I have said. Let it stand that I again issue a denial of having had sex with Oma. I again say that what they have published is libel and again ask that they remove said libel from the web.

Any way when you read what that Blog says about me and Oma, (and that they are not Rob Moshein/Bob Atchison or anyone of the Pallasart group) yet they ”know” that I am cheating on my wife with Oma, which implies that they have seen this, which would mean that they are stalking us in person not just cyber stalking… I wonder who else is so consumed with Oma Hamou that they would take all this time to find and publish a blog on just her? And then be so upset at me for defending her against what Rob/Bob/Pallasart has said about her that they would continue to personally attack me?

Of course we all know that Rob/Bob denied any involvement with all the previous Hate-Oma sites and events such as publishing her Social Security number on the web or hiding behind names like Gilbert MacDuff or Tonya Hoochie, they denied it right up to when they appeared in court… Look at the continued patterns of behavior, not just on this current Hate-Blog but in the past ones and even currently on the AP Forum.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us “They” say “We are NOT any single person they say we are. We are NOT in contact with nor in any way affiliated with any of them either.” Yet one of the emails that were posted by this blogger (WatchTower) was from a document ROB MOSHEIN submitted to the court and one “we” did not published, so where did they get it if they are not in contact with them?

Anyhow, lots of people have offered their support and friendship to those of us who do support Oma and many of them are considered REAL HISTORIANS in Russian history even some of the living descendants of Czar Nicholas II.

WHO IS BOB ATCHISON?
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Like others I’ve found the whole "Bob Atchison" story and the cult surrounding the last ruling family of Russia, Nicholas II fascinating. In an age of spin, Bob Atchison offers feeling and authenticity. His message and that of his company, Pallasart on Oma Hamou is consistent -- unshakeable, in fact, no matter the evidence -- he commands daily attention by his on-the-spot, invective-rich variations on the theme. His lunatic counterfactual art is more appealing than the banal awfulness of the reliable sources. Police reports, court records, interviews with law enforcement personnel, and other sources show Bob Atchison committed perjury, submitted forged documents and wholly fabricated or wildly embellished details of Oma Hamou's life because of his bizarre obsession. Some people have claimed they have even pitched the Bob Atchison story to FOX News,CNBC, CBS and England's The Independent and talks about forays into TV talk showland.

A simple Google search provides countless examples of absolutely horrifying cases where individuals have had their lives destroyed as a result of a psycho who lives to harass people on the Internet. It is absolutely reprehensible for someone to be able to come up with false, malicious and defamatory information about someone with the intent of destroying their character, and be able to do so with impunity and anonymity. In court documents both Rob Moshein and Bob Atchison claimed they had no idea if any of what they reported was true or not in regards to their libelous statements made about Oma Hamou. And who can blame them when they seem to have so much trouble deciphering their own life?

So again (sigh) with all the lies, one understands it may be hard to keep track.

So, let's recap:

NOTHING TO DO WITH CZARIST RUSSIA OR THE ALEXANDER PALACE OR THE "BOB ATCHISON AND OMA HAMOU" THING....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us I never paid much attention to Anna Nicole Smith. She was just another celebrity without portfolio running headlong towards tragedy. I didn’t like or dislike her. Her persona and her antics were more pathetic to me than entertaining. I don’t believe I ever saw any of her show. I remember seeing an ad for it one time and wondering what on earth would be entertaining about watching a real-life human being self-destruct in such a pathetic public manner.

I didn’t see the humor. I understand it had the same kind of attraction that causes us to slow down and look at a wreck or why we are fascinated with news and pictures of disasters. I understand that. But I still didn’t find it funny, just sad.
Access Hollywood tries to explains it:

Our Fascination With Anna Nicole

NEW YORK (February 8, 2007) — Anybody who arrived from Mars and wanted to know what all the fuss was over this Anna Nicole Smith would do well to watch just one clip: her appearance at the 2004 American Music Awards.

Prancing onstage in a tight-fitting black gown that showcased her cleavage — which was, as all else about her, larger than life — she grabbed your attention. Her looks were outlandish, but there was beauty beneath the excess.

And then she spoke. “Like my body?” she asked, tracing her fingers over her breasts. Her slurred words spilled out dangerously. She was clearly very high on something, and you wondered if she would survive, literally.

It was hard to watch. And, of course, harder not to.

Scant hours after news emerged of her death Thursday at age 39, many people were hard pressed to describe what exactly Anna Nicole Smith was. Actress? Model? Reality star? Rich widow?

“I don’t know exactly what she did,” said talk show host Joy Behar, hearing the news over the phone. And yet, trying to put her finger on why we watched this strange woman over the years, she came up with two things: Dysfunction. And beauty.

“No question, she was beautiful,” said Behar, of ABC’s “The View.” “We know people like to watch dysfunction. But beauty gives you something extra to look at. Dysfunction and beauty: Now that’s something to watch.”

There were two news events concerning Anna Nicole that I did pay attention to. One just happened to be on when I was vegetating in front of the TV one day. It was a story about her case to get a portion of her deceased husband’s estate. The fact that her case was being heard by the Supreme Court was portrayed with amazement. Anna Nicole Smith was going to testify in front of the Supreme Court. Everyone seemed to think that was hilarious. I watched the video tape she had made of herself with her generations older husband and realized there was a lot more to this woman than the perpetual joke she was portrayed to be. She played the dumb white-trash blond to perfection, but there was nothing dumb about her. She had her very bright, very savvy, very old, very physically ill, very mentally alert, very wealthy husband on tape promising her an inheritance. Yes, I thought, there is more to this woman than the persona she uses to keep herself in the gossip magazines.

The other news item I happened to see was an interview Greta Van Susteren did with her. They were sitting in some outside cafe and chatting. During the course of the interview it became obvious that Anna Nicole knew and understood exactly what her entertainment value was. She also understood the price she was paying for being Anna Nicole Smith. I was again struck by the fact that there was nothing dumb about this ‘dumb blond’. I saw that she understood fully that in order to keep her fans, she had to continue to be the disaster of a person on which she had built her celebrity.

When asked about how she dealt with the constant ridicule she replied that she didn’t care that people laughed at her. They could laugh all they want because she was the one who was getting the last laugh. Her face belied her assertions of confidence.

At one point in that interview she talked about her loneliness. She talked about being surrounded by people, but no one that truly cared about her, they only cared about what she could do for them. Greta asked her who her best friend was and she responded that it was her lawyer. Greta commented that seemed odd, to call her lawyer her best friend. With a strained smile on her face, Anna Nicole replied that they had known each other for many years and ‘you see, that goes back to the lonely part’.

Following her death there have been numerous people coming out of the woodwork to comment. One comedian made the statement that he was saddened by her death because she was great joke material and once someone dies it changes how you can joke about them. He said he’d have to change his material. Others stated she had died of a drug overdose as though that had already been established. I heard some talking heads commenting that they guessed that means they won’t be able to get the DNA testing done to prove her baby’s paternity now.

It made me sad that not all, but so many people who had comments about her death only seemed to see her death in terms of how it affected them.

The battle over who will be the trustee of her baby’s millions is the biological father of her baby will continue. Just three days after the new baby was born Anna Nicole’s son died mysteriously and now, just five months later, so has Anna Nicole. There is now no one between the baby and half a billion dollars. There won’t be any shortage of people willing to take guardianship of the baby.

A poor girl from Texas did whatever she had to do to become rich and famous. Even more, she ended up with a half a billion dollar fortune. She was a shewed businesswoman and publicist. She was beautiful and flamboyant. She was more beautiful when she wasn’t flamboyant.

As I was watching the goings on today I found myself wondering, was it worth it?

There are some people like Bob Atchison, Rob Moshein & Oma Hamou whose ubiquitous image (in the realm of the Alexander Palace and Czarist Russia) becomes virtual video wallpaper. Inevitably, a made-for-TV epic movie of the week is made. So, we ask you, now that it appears these three have moved on, who do you believe was telling the truth?
